Cure Leukaemia was founded in 2003, and since then, have helped to provide pioneering drug and transplant treatments to blood cancer patients who have desperately needed them. The charity also plays a role in helping to finance the internationally distinguished Centre for Clinical Haematology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. Funds go towards life-saving, and world first, clinical trials to treat patients with blood cancer who have exhausted all their options.
Cure Leukaemia are proud to have helped to treat over 4000 patients by leveraging over £25m worth of revolutionary drugs and funding vital research nurses to direct these trials. Expert research nurses ensure that patients are always monitored and cared for, and provide the opportunity for these patients to access potentially life-saving therapies.
Only by placing more nurses in more hospitals, can more blood cancer patients benefit from access to potentially life-saving treatment.
Last year, Cure Leukaemia raised £1m to fund the expansion of the Centre for Clinical Haematology. The transformational expansion project has doubled the capacity for blood cancer patients treated, massively increased the capacity for further trials, and provided a higher employment of research nurses. With the benefit of a grant of over £2m from the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP), the Centre reopened, bigger and better than ever in January 2018.
